So we had our Thanksgiving Potluck Pack meeting this past Thursday and it was the first time since Lando joined scouts that they did awards. He received his Bobcat rank along with 4 belt loops (weather, art, music, and video games). It was a good amount of work setting up and all but it was a great time. Below is a picture of them doing their "If you're a Tiger and you know it" cheer...
I've also started doing a newsletter for our Tiger Cub Den, most of the parents seem to be enjoying it. I'm trying to keep everyone on the same page and give them all a heads up of things coming up in the the next 2 months. I'm not den leader (nor do I want to be) but I'm really enjoying helping out.
I'm on the committee however and I'd really like to be doing the Secretary job but currently it's filled by someone, so we'll see how things pan out in Feb when all the positions are "open" again for the next year.
I am planning a hike at a local park for Saturday (hopefully the weather is nice) but haven't gotten any responses yet for it. I hope it works out as it's one of the last achievements we have to get before they achieve their Tiger ranks (which needs to happen before Feb ideally and it's going to be "cold" for Charleston Dec and Jan).
Lando really is enjoying it, I think a lot of it has to do with how involved Will and I are with his den. Will is taking over the Bear Den for the rest of the year since they don't have a leader. So he's now Assistant Cub Master, Bear Den Leader, and starting in Feb he'll be the Pack Trainer.

News Station!
So tonight we went to the local news station (Channel 2). We had a tour from the meteorologist.... the kids had a blast. The best part was obviously the green screen. Here are some pictures:

Cub Haunted Weekend - 10/25
Camping for the first time in 5 years was fun. They had hay rides, a haunted house, games, crafts, and other things for the kids to do all night. It was a good time. It was COLD though. I haven't had coffee in 2 years but I broke that during this campout because it was so cold while we were walking around, I just needed something to warm me and my hands up. Instead of a proper campfire though, we went inside the dining hall to have our midnight snack and they had a fire in the fireplace. After some skits and songs we watched Ghostbusters II. Lando LOVED it. We finally got back to our tent at 0230... Lando fell asleep almost instantly after we arranged 10-15 glow sticks around the inside of our tent. Will went and talked to our acting Committee Chair (who was working the event) and got back an hour later. When he got back to the tent we talked for about an hour before finally falling asleep (with super cold noses). We packed up in the morning and headed home for showers... it was a good time. Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures because it was dark the entire time.

Lots of things...
... have been going on.
1st - Will is now Assistant Cubmaster of our Pack.
2nd - I'm a committee member for our Pack.
We went to a fire safety day at the local Lowes this past Monday...
We went to the dentist Friday, fulfilling a piece of his Tiger Cub Rank.
We went to Dorchester Colonial Park Saturday... an attempt to find some rocks and minerals for a Geology belt loop. We had no luck with that but we did learn a good deal from some archaeologists working the site.
Lots more coming up in the next month... Will and I will start getting into our new roles. We have our first district camp out on Friday night. Will and I are going to BALOO training in November. We have a Pack Thanksgiving pot luck to plan. We are hosting the den meetings in November/December.

Raingutter Regatta 2013
Yesterday we participated in our first Raingutter Regatta. There were 5 Tiger Cubs, 3 Wolf Cubs, and 2 Webelos in attendance plus quite a few siblings of scouts. The event was done during an overnight camping trip but, we didn't end up camping because we have yet to find out camping equipment from when we put it away after the flood in January.
So we went up for the day, getting there around 0945... we started making our boat. Thank goodness one of the parents that has been around brought some heavy grade sand paper because it would have taken us much longer to do what we did with the fingernail files that came in the kits. We finished our boat right before lunch. We did lunch (picnic in the car) and then went back to the area where everyone else was finishing their boats. Lando was able to play for a bit before everyone finished their boats.
After boats were finished, the Cub Master rounded everyone up for some knot tying. By this time though (1330-1400) the kids were all wearing down and getting whiney or just wanted to fall asleep at the tables. But Will at least remembered how to tie some knots so he was able to help Landon (and also got volunteered to teach a square knot at the next pack meeting since the Cub Master was having a hard time teaching it.
Finally at 1520 we got to doing the actual regatta. The kids were so excited. Lando won his first race, lost his second race, but he was able to be put into the second round as every Tiger cub had the same luck. Second round he won both races. Third round, he won both races. So he became the Tiger Cub winner for this year. Which, is pretty exciting.
We were all exhausted at the end of the day... but it was worth it.

Okay so....
... we didn't really make it a normal occurrence to post to this blog. I might try again now that Lando is doing Cub Scouts and fun school things.
He wore his uniform for the first time tonight.
